Chapter 17: Cheng Han Became a Big Shot
by KikiAt 7:20 in the morning.
Cheng Han arrived at school.
Compared to usual, he was twenty minutes earlier.
According to Class Two’s rules, the entire class was divided into nine groups that took turns cleaning every morning. Today just so happened to be the turn of the fourth group, the one Cheng Han belonged to.
As Cheng Han walked to the classroom entrance, two boys happened to be carrying garbage bins out from inside.
The two sides exchanged glances for a moment, and the boys immediately stepped aside to make way.
One of them even smiled at him ingratiatingly.
Cheng Han nodded politely.
“Morning.”
The two boys responded as though deeply honored:
“Good morning!”
Cheng Han’s expression remained calm, though inwardly he felt rather strange.
He understood that this was definitely the aftereffect of yesterday’s “Grass Hound slaying.” In the hearts of his classmates, he had already become a bona fide “strong person.”
In short, his status had risen tremendously.
Cheng Han entered the classroom, put down his schoolbag, picked up a broom, and began sweeping the dust from the floor.
Several students who had arrived early saw him approaching with the broom and quickly stood up from their seats, proactively moving their chairs away to make cleaning easier.
After Cheng Han finished sweeping, they even politely thanked him.
Without exception.
Their attitudes resembled lackeys respectfully greeting a big boss.
Cheng Han did not put on airs. He simply replied amicably:
“No need to be polite.”
All these things were subtle details that ordinary people might never notice.
Yet within those details, human nature revealed itself.
Three minutes before class began.
Homeroom teacher Yan Dongshan entered the classroom as usual.
The entire class quieted down.
Cheng Han also put down the lotus leaf cake in his hand.
Naturally, this was another piece of food from the little girl’s daily offerings.
Yan Dongshan cleared his throat and said,
“Students, I have something to announce. Fang Han has taken a long leave of absence. He won’t be coming back to school.”
Hearing this, everyone looked unsurprised.
By now, Fang Han had become a super joke throughout the school. If he dared take even one step onto campus, the strange looks from others alone would probably drive him insane.
Yan Dongshan continued,
“Fang Han previously held the position of class inspector. Since he has left, the position must now be reassigned.”
The so-called “class inspector” was mainly responsible for supervising the behavior and discipline of the entire class, wielding fairly broad authority.
For example, during daily cleaning duties, the inspector did not need to do the work personally. They only had to inspect the results, and if anything was unsatisfactory, they could demand it be redone.
Thus, in the students’ eyes, it was a position of great authority, second only to the class monitor.
Yan Dongshan swept his gaze across the room before directly calling out a name.
“Cheng Han, you’ll become the next class inspector.”
Cheng Han stood up.
“Understood.”
Yan Dongshan smiled broadly.
“I believe Cheng Han will definitely become an excellent class inspector.”
After speaking, he took the initiative to applaud.
Clap! Clap!
As though receiving a signal, the entire class immediately joined in.
Many students looked openly envious.
Not only did the inspector hold significant authority, they also received a scholarship from the school every year. Every student coveted the position.
Once again, Cheng Han could not help but sigh inwardly.
He had only revealed a little of his “strong person” potential, yet he immediately received goodwill and respect from others—even from the homeroom teacher himself.
Qian Qingqing beamed brightly.
“Cheng Han, please take care of me from now on.”
Cheng Han smiled back.
“Of course.”
Wen Jie secretly glanced at Cheng Han’s back and felt deep regret over the offensive remarks he had made before.
What if Cheng Han caught hold of some weakness in the future and used it as an excuse for revenge?
For a moment, the boy became overwhelmed with anxiety, to the point of wishing he could transfer to another school.
Every tenth-day cycle, on the ninth day, No. 15 Middle School held a “Grand Exercise Assembly,” usually scheduled before lunch and lasting half an hour.
The format was somewhat similar to the radio calisthenics from Cheng Han’s previous world, though the actual content differed greatly.
Today happened to be the day of the Grand Exercise Assembly.
One of the class inspector’s duties was to lead the class to the sports field, report to the supervising teacher, then monitor and record student performance.
To Cheng Han, this was an excellent opportunity to observe students from other classes.
Sitting in a classroom made it impossible to judge body shapes.
But in an open area, differences in height and build were immediately obvious.
And because inspectors were responsible for supervision, they needed to stand behind the students—providing the perfect viewing angle.
Ring~
The dismissal bell rang.
Cheng Han stood up and loudly announced,
“Everyone, gather immediately in front of the teaching building. If you need to use the restroom, do it quickly. If there’s any urgent matter, come directly to me.”
As he spoke, he quietly connected to the True Flame Residual Seal. His voice gained a strange quality that inspired warmth and subconsciously made others want to obey him.
The students immediately began moving.
Cheng Han looked around and swept his gaze over a short boy named Yan Hong, pausing briefly.
The boy was thin and weak-looking, with a pale complexion and faint traces of bluish discoloration on his lips.
Cheng Han frowned and silently said:
“Deduce.”
A moment later, a stream of information flashed through his mind.
The result showed that if Yan Hong participated in the Grand Exercise Assembly, he would collapse ten minutes later, causing the assembly to be interrupted midway and resulting in Class Two losing ten points.
Cheng Han strode over and asked,
“Yan Hong, are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
Yan Hong froze for a moment. His lips twitched, but no words came out.
Cheng Han directly asked,
“Are you experiencing heart palpitations, shortness of breath, cold sweat on your back, and occasional burning pain in your stomach?”
This was precisely the information given by the Omniscient Eye.
Yan Hong nodded in astonishment.
Cheng Han placed a hand on his shoulder and said concernedly,
“You don’t need to participate in the assembly today. I’ll help you request leave.”
He turned his head and shouted,
“Wan Tengjiao! Yan Hong isn’t feeling well. I suspect he has acute gastritis. Can you take him to the infirmary?”
Wan Tengjiao happened to be Class Two’s monitor. Cheng Han specifically chose her for a reason.
Yan Hong had a timid personality, while the short-haired girl was capable and decisive. Sending her with him would solve many potential problems.
Wan Tengjiao stopped walking and answered readily,
“Alright! I’ll take him right now!”
Several nearby students turned to look over.
Cheng Han urged them,
“What are you standing around for? Hurry up and head to the sports field with me.”
The slight frown on his face carried a natural sense of authority. The students did not dare delay and hurried out of the classroom.
Five minutes later.
All forty-five students of Class Two marched onto the sports field in orderly rows.
Holding a class flag, Cheng Han walked steadily at the front, his face showing not the slightest trace of nervousness.
As he passed the podium, he loudly reported,
“Report! One student from Third Year Class Two is sick, and one student is accompanying him. Two are absent in total. The remaining forty-five students are all present!”
His voice was firm and powerful, and every word was crystal clear, allowing the dozen or so teachers on the podium to hear him perfectly.
This kind of confident and composed performance looked nothing like a newcomer serving as inspector on his first day.
Instead, he resembled a veteran with over a hundred experiences leading teams.
Many students thought of Fang Han, who had been forced to leave school, and subconsciously compared the two.
Every single one of them felt Cheng Han performed far better by comparison.
