Chapter 7: Bloodhead Spider
by KikiAfter calming himself down, Cheng Han thought of another problem—
How should he notify the authorities?
Go directly to the Patrol Bureau?
He immediately rejected the idea.
“Absolutely not! Who knows whether there are Evil God believers acting as moles inside the authorities?
“The Omniscient Eye is only Level 3 right now. Its ability is already limited, and without any correlation, it can’t deduce the internal situation of the authorities.
“If my identity gets leaked by a mole, with this weak little body of mine, how could I possibly withstand their retaliation?
“The safest and most reliable method is to secretly pass the information to the authorities without exposing my identity.”
Cheng Han pondered hard for a while before inspiration suddenly flashed through his mind.
“Got it! I can make the message ‘fly’ over!”
He took out a pencil and white paper, then roughly drew several scenes.
These were the scenes shown by the skill, and they would also serve as evidence for the authorities.
Although the drawings were rather rough, all the general characteristics were included. As long as the officials were not blind, they would definitely be able to identify them.
Afterward, Cheng Han began making the tool for delivering the message.
After working busily for an hour, everything was ready.
Cheng Han checked everything once to ensure there were no problems, then muttered,
“I’ll wait until dark before taking action.”
After lunch, Cheng Han first used the Cheng Breathing Method to enter deep sleep for more than an hour. Then he continued deducing the True Flame Residual Seal.
Although this thing was still incomplete, it already had so many functions that it brought him pleasant surprises.
He looked forward greatly to seeing what it would become once he deduced it into completion.
The first deduction failed.
Cheng Han was not discouraged. He silently muttered again,
“Analyze the sun and complete the residual seal.”
A strange coolness immediately spread across the top of his skull. The sphere of light in his Sea of Spirit shone brilliantly, and a faint warmth then rose throughout his entire body, making him feel extremely comfortable.
This was an abnormality that had not appeared just now.
Cheng Han instantly understood.
The analysis had succeeded!
Within the core of the light sphere, threads of light could vaguely be seen growing rapidly, making the structure slightly more complete. During this process, mysterious knowledge appeared out of nowhere.
One second later, the abnormality disappeared.
A line of information flashed forth:
“Analysis successful! Proficiency +8. Current proficiency: 34/1000. Spirit Value: 7.2/13.3.”
Cheng Han was greatly surprised.
He remembered very clearly that his maximum Spirit Value had originally been 13.2 points. Now it had become 13.3 points.
It had actually increased by 0.1 points!
After thinking deeply for a while, Cheng Han’s face filled with excitement.
“The residual seal and my spirit are most likely mutually reinforcing.
“The stronger my spirit becomes, the stronger the residual seal’s power will be. Conversely, the stronger the residual seal becomes, the more it can stimulate the growth of my Spirit Value.”
He raised one finger and activated the True Flame Residual Seal with his spiritual power.
The residual seal absorbed his spiritual power and released brilliant light. A bright point of light condensed at his fingertip, immediately illuminating a large part of the room.
This was the new ability obtained by completing the residual seal further.
Cheng Han moved his finger slightly, and the light vanished.
He laughed.
“Not bad! Starting today, I can be considered to have the ability of a human lightbulb. Not only can I save on candle money, I won’t have to be afraid when walking at night either.”
At that moment, the residual seal suddenly trembled slightly.
Cheng Han froze for a moment, then locked his mind onto the residual seal.
A piece of information appeared:
“True Flame Residual Seal. Completion: 0.86%.”
Cheng Han shook his head.
“Not even one percent. Looks like completing it through deduction will truly be a long and difficult road.”
Seven o’clock in the evening.
Night had descended upon Tai’an Minor Spirit Realm.
Carrying his backpack, Cheng Han pushed his bicycle toward the district gate.
“Woof! Woof!”
The two Spirit Mastiffs guarding the gate, Taozi and Lizi, heard his footsteps and barked loudly.
Cheng Han called out,
“The candles at home are almost used up. I’m going outside to buy a pack.”
The barking stopped.
In fact, Shanyi District had a small grocery store, but its prices were slightly higher. Many residents usually went to larger stores in order to save a few copper coins.
Cheng Han was no exception.
Unless he urgently needed something, he would not visit the small grocery store.
This matched the “character setting” of an orphan and was also the least suspicious behavior.
A few minutes later, Cheng Han rode his bicycle to a larger store, bought a pack of ten candles, and quickly left.
On the way back to the district, he deliberately took a detour, hid his bicycle in a concealed corner, and entered a small grove alone.
He took out a paper lantern, folded the drawings and stuffed them inside, then placed a short piece of candle into the lantern.
This was the “vehicle” he would use to deliver the message—
A Kongming lantern.
Cheng Han smiled rather smugly.
“If an ordinary person did this, the success rate would be close to zero. But with my cheat ability’s help, I can guarantee the Kongming lantern lands precisely at the target location.”
He used the Omniscient Eye several times in succession and found the most ideal launch point.
According to the deductions, if the Kongming lantern took off from this position, the night wind would push it more than six hundred meters northeast before it finally landed in an open space.
That place happened to be one of the Patrol Bureau’s outposts.
The open space was the outpost’s training ground.
The deduction also showed that the outpost chief had a habit of strolling around the training ground at night. Right now happened to be his walking time.
Cheng Han extended his index finger and lightly touched the tip of the candle.
A flash of red light appeared and vanished.
The candle was lit.
This was also one of the small applications of the True Flame Residual Seal. As long as he controlled the power and focused it on a single point, he could create high temperature and instantly ignite flammable objects.
Cheng Han smiled.
“Now I can even save money on matches.”
Soon, as the air inside heated and expanded, the Kongming lantern slowly rose.
The lantern had been dyed pure black, blocking most of the light and making it look rather dim. From just a little farther away, it was almost impossible to notice.
This was intentional.
The purpose was to reduce the risk of exposure and prevent anyone from tracing it back to the source. That was also why he had chosen to launch it from within the grove.
After a dozen breaths, the lantern rose out of the grove and drifted away with the night wind.
Cheng Han quickly left the grove, pedaled hard on his bicycle, and soon disappeared into the distance.
Ten minutes later.
Outpost Chief Liu of the Patrol Bureau’s Sixth Outpost looked up at a dim point of light drifting toward the training ground and could not help stopping in his tracks.
This burly man, nearly two meters tall, carefully stared at it for a few moments and muttered,
“Which child is playing with this kind of thing? Aren’t they afraid of starting a fire?”
Before long, the candle burned out.
The lantern went completely dark, then slowly descended into the training ground.
Its landing point happened to be just over ten meters in front of the burly man.
Chief Liu reached out and picked up the lantern, casually examining it for a moment before nodding lightly.
“It’s actually made quite delicately.”
He took apart the lantern, intending to throw it into the trash bin, only to happen upon the folded drawings inside.
Chief Liu unfolded them and began looking through them under the streetlamp’s light.
When he saw the third drawing, his expression instantly changed drastically.
“This drawing looks like a Bloodhead Spider!”
The drawing depicted a twisted, evil, and terrifying monster. Its chest and abdomen were completely split open, with eight hairy legs extending from within as it hung upside down from the ceiling.
Its head was twisted a full one hundred and eighty degrees, its mouth split open to a horrifying angle, and a large mass of tentacles emerged from within, waving wildly in midair.
On the floor below, numerous corpses lay scattered all over the place.
Most horrifying of all, the head of every corpse had been cruelly twisted off and piled into a rather neat little pyramid.
This extremely disgusting practice was precisely the Bloodhead Spider’s unique habit.
The “Bloodhead” in its name came from this very trait.
